Pastor spent €2m church cash on high life

The former pastor of the Catholic church in the village of Gulpen in Limburg stole €2.5m from church funds, reports Thursday’s Volkskrant.

According to the church’s lawyer, Joep Haffmans spent all but €600,000 of the money on wine, women, cars, expensive clothes and foreign travel before his death last July at the age of 64.
He was suspended in 2006 on suspicion of embezzlement of church funds and tax evasion.
