Government makes concessions to truckers
Wednesday 09 July 2008
The government has agreed not to increase diesel taxes between now and 2011 in an effort to soften the blow of high fuel charges on the transport sector.
The measure is one of several agreed between ministers and transport industry representatives on Wednesday.
In addition, ministers have agreed not to increase road tax before 2011 and to put €62m into encouraging the sector to buy more energy-efficient vehicles. Truckers have staged a number of protests about high fuel prices in recent weeks.
