Over 1,000 injured by fireworks

Thursday 17 January 2008

Some 1,100 people were injured by fireworks during the New Year celebrations this year, almost 150 more than in 2007, says the Consumer Safety foundation on Thursday.

The increase is mainly the result of accidents with illegal professional fireworks, the organisation says.

But although more people were hurt, the injuries were less serious than last year, it adds.
