'Fortis to get more of ABN Amro'
Monday 26 November 2007
Dutch-Belgian financial services group Fortis will get more of ABN Amro following the takeover in October than had been expected, reports the Financieele Dagblad on Monday.
It now looks as if Fortis will become sole owner of the ABN Amro headquarters on the Amsterdam southern axis, the paper quotes anonymous sources as saying. Fortis has made no comment.
The building, currently worth €500m, was originally expected to be shared by Fortis and its consortium partners Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Santander, the paper says.
In another unexpected move, Fortis will take over one third of the trading floor staff at the Amsterdam headquarters. The total trading floor workforce was to fall under RBS.
The final details of the takeover are to be presented to the Dutch central bank at the end of 2007. According to the FD's sources, the Scots have underestimated the complexity of the deal.
