Mass media presence for kidney show

Some 40 foreign media crews are in Hilversum for tonight’s broadcast of the controversial kidney donor show, in which three people will compete for the kidney of a terminally-ill woman, broadcaster BNN said.

Among the reporters in Hilversum are journalists from the traditional news agencies as well as Al-Jazeera, ZDF, Nippon TV and CNN.
BNN also says that six people have come forward offering a kidney to the two people who do not win tonight. They have all been referred through to the central kidney donor register, a spokeswoman said.
Health minister Ab Klink turned down an invitation to appear on the show, which cabinet colleagues have described as ‘inappropriate and unethical’. BNN had invited the minister to explain how the government planned to boost organ donation.
