The trial against suspected crime boss Willem Holleeder and nine accomplices has been adjourned until September. The case was unexpectedly suspended last month after Holleeder was taken ill and underwent a serious heart operation.

On Monday the Amsterdam court heard evidence in confidence from the prison service’s medical advisor. She said it is too early to make predictions about Holleeder’s recovery but that it should be clear in the coming three months whether Holleeder will be fit enough to stand trial in the foreseeable future.
Four of the nine other suspects in the case are in prison pending the trial. The court is still to decide whether they will have to remain in custody.
The Amsterdam court had indicated earlier that it wants to try all suspects together. They are charged with blackmailing four property tycoons.
