No subsidy for extreme Christian party
Tuesday 30 January 2007
Fundamentalist Christian party, the SGP, is again set to be been refused state subsidies because of its stand on women.
The party, which has two MPs, will not allow women to hold a political post. Women are now allowed to join the party – but only after a court case last year.
The SGP lost out on €800,000 in government subsidies in 2006. Donations from members made up the shortfall.
