Kenaad Tewarie, the financial director of troubled supermarket group Laurus has resigned, just two weeks after chairman Harry Bruijniks left after a difference of opinion over strategy. In a short statement, Laurus said the board had decided to ‘step into the future with new finanancial management’.

Tewarie had been expected to oversee the sale of supermarket chains Edah and Konmar.
With both top jobs filled by interims, there is now much speculation on who is likely to pick up the pieces. The Financieele Dagblad reports that Jan Brouwer, who quit as director of supermarket group Schuitema earlier this year, could be appointed to breath new life into Super de Boer, Laurus’ only remaining supermarket brand. Laurus has been hard hit by the ongoing supermarket price war and the failure of the revamp of its Konmar chain.
Meanwhile brewer Grolsch, which has refused to take part in the supermarket price battle, has seen its market share in the Netherlands decline slightly. Sales in its second market, the UK, were stable. Grolsch saw first half sales up to €152.2 mln in the first six months of this year. Net profit was down from €7.4 mln to €6.5 mln.
