Night Ride Amsterdam
Not so much a sport, more a spectacle as the coaches and carriages of the Hoofdstad Aanspanning make their annual night ride through Amsterdam. The drivers are dressed in clothes appropriate to the original use of the carriage or coach: for hunting, to go to church or for the doctor. They are pulled by various numbers of horses from two to six which takes some doing on the narrow canal streets.
They leave from P15 at the RAI at 9 pm and head for the Vondel Park where the lanterns are lit (at around 9.30 pm ). They then travel through the centre of the city to arrive on the Noordermarkt at 10.30 pm for a stop to rest the horses and drink champagne. Departure is at 11.15 pm and they get back to P15 at around 12.30 pm.
The full route is on the website.
