Daily paper Trouw says Bas Eickhout, a member of the European parliament for left-wing green party GroenLinks, is the most ‘sustainable’ person in the Netherlands.

Eickhout, who is deputy chairman of the European green group in Brussels, tops the paper’s annual Sustainable 100 list.

He was chosen by an expert jury from more than 400 nominations.  In second place is the appropriately named entrepreneur Maurits Groen.

In third place is Maarten Hajer, director of the Environmental Assessment Agency and fourth is Unilever chief executive Paul Polman. Polman has pledged to ensure all Unilever ingredients are produced in a sustainable way from 2020, Trouw says.
