Dutch roads to get even more road signs

Dutch roads will have 14 new traffic signs next year which transport minister Melanie Schultz hopes will clarify the situation on some roads.

The last new signs – eight of them – were introduced in 2006. The new signs will be used to separate trams and buses, identify lorry-only lanes on the roads and reduce traffic jams caused by farm vehicles, broadcaster Nos says.

The minister said she hopes the new traffic signs will combat the ‘unrestrained growth’ in the number of signs on Dutch streets. This has been caused in part by ‘road managers’ developing their own signs to clarify local situations.
