Transport minister Melanie Schultz has pledged to try to find ways of making maximum speed limits more obvious, following a string of complaints by motorists and MPs.

The speed limits on some roads in the Netherlands can vary from 80 to 130 kph. This not only causes confusion but can be dangerous, MPs said during Wednesday’s debate on the transport ministry’s 2014 budget.

‘We need something clever without there being too many road signs,’ Schultz told MPs. She stressed that 130 kph is the standard speed on motorways unless otherwise indicated.
