A 37-year-old man has been jailed for two years for public violence offences and possessing 43 t-shirts which discriminate against Jews.

The Hague appeal court ruled the t-shirts, featuring the slogan ‘Destroy Zionism’ and an image of a man pointing a gun at an orthodox Jew, were an insult to the Jewish community and an incitement to hatred and discrimination.

The t-shirts were seized in a raid on the man’s house in connection with his attack on a 49-year-old man in 2006. The victim, of Antillean origin, was hit on the head with a bottle and kicked while he lay on the ground.

However, the man was cleared of charges relating to two other t-shirts, one with the slogan ‘Combat 18’ and the other stating ‘Whatever it takes’. Combat 18 refers to a minor British neo-Nazi grouping.
