Girls have been sent home from at least two Dutch schools in recent weeks for wearing too-short skirts and shorts, according to the Volkskrant.

Shorts and tiny skirts are fashionable at the moment but some teachers felt forced to intervene when girls are wearing what is considered inappropriate clothing, the paper says.

Amsterdam’s Berlage Lyceum sent home a girl last week because her clothes were considered inappropriate and girls at the Groene Hart Rijnwoude school have also been told the dress differently.

‘I really like the new short shorts,’ 14-year-old Roos told the paper. ‘The boys like them as well. They don’t like the fact we can’t wear them to school any more.’

Head teacher André Hol told the Volkskrant: ‘We gave to speak to pupils about their behaviour and clothes are part of that. This is not a swimming pool. Some shorts are too short for school. ’
