Ice still very unsafe, skating body warns

The KNSB on Friday warned skaters to beware of thin ice, particularly in areas where snow has covered potential weak areas.

‘We have not had nearly enough frost and the snow has spoiled things in many places,’ spokesman Ramon Kuipers told Nos television.
A number of people have gone through the ice. The head of the ice club at the Ankeveense lakes south of Amsterdam crashed through the ice up to his waist during a radio interview about ice safety.
One man in Friesland was taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia after the ice broke on the Groote Wielen lake.
