Labour leader Diederik Samsom is politician of the year
Monday 17 December 2012
Labour leader Diederik Samsom has been voted politician of the year by the Dutch parliamentary press for his role in restoring the PvdA’s fortunes.
Former finance minister Jan Kees de Jager was second in the competition due to his communication skills and prime minister Mark Rutte was third.
New defence minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert was given the title of ‘new talent’ of the year.
It is not clear how many journalists took part in the poll.

He can't be all that good if he is the lackey of Rutte.

By Terence Hale | 17 December 2012 2:46 PMLabour leader Diederik Samsom is politician of the year. In my humble opinion a wrong choice, I would have chosen Mr. Wilders and I think a considerable of Dutch too. Just a simple question, who are the Dutch parliamentary press anyway?
Perhaps they should change the title from "Politician of the year" to "Least idiotic (and that really is stretching it) fool of the year".
By Darren | 18 December 2012 9:18 AMSamson certainly deserves this. He managed to turn his party around through A) strong clear leadership and B) not least, he re-defined the Labor Party as clearly a left social party. No more maybe a little of left, maybe a little right - no, Samson proudly represents a social sustainable future for middle class NL. Its good to see him, his actual work and the ideology he represents being appreciated and rewarded by voters as times get tougher. A combo of the VVD and the PvdA is the only real way forward for NL.
