Amsterdam AEX index ends 2012 up nearly 10%

Monday 31 December 2012

The Amsterdam stock exchange blue chip AEX index closed 2012 up 9.7% over the year, reaching its highest point since 2009.

On Monday, the AEX closed up 0.2% at 342.71 points. The exchange closed at 14.00 hours because of the New Year festivities, Nos television reported.

Nevertheless, the AEX was beaten solidly by the Dax and Frankfurt exchanges, which rose 30% over the year.

Telecom group KPN was one of the big losers of 2012 closing down 60%. Shell and Arcelor Mittal also lost ground. Airline Air France-KLM was the biggest gainer, winning 75% over the year.
