A man convicted of plotting to carry out terrorist attacks in the Netherlands has had his sentence reduced to 10.5 years in jail on appeal.

Eric Jan Q was found guilty by The Hague appeal court of making preparations for murder, kidnapping, preparing explosions, theft and blackmail.
The evidence against him includes photos and maps of possible targets, including the Prinsjesdag parade, the Botklek port and chemical industry district and Hotel New York in Rotterdam.
Police also found munitions and ingredients to make explosives during a search of an attic at his home in Arnhem.
Criminal
During the appeal hearings, the public prosecution department said Q should not be considered an extreme right-wing terrorist but as a very dangerous criminal.
Q has a long record of offences. In the 1990s, he was convicted of two violent armed robberies on money-changing bureaus, one of which involved firing 30 times at the police.
He was jailed for 14 years for those offences but escaped from prison in 2001. Q was eventually recaptured in 2007 when he was caught shoplifting.
