Police training in Kunduz, Afghanistan partly halted

The training of junior police officers by Dutch trainers in the northern Afghanistan province of Kunduz has been halted, according to a defence ministry briefing for MPs obtained by Nos television.
Some junior officers have been put to work outside Kunduz, which breaks agreements made between the Netherlands and Afghan authorities, the briefing states.
The Netherlands only agreed to send trainers to Afghanistan on condition they worked in the northern province to ensure they only undertook civilian tasks.
The mission started last year, following the withdrawal of the Dutch military mission. It is due to continue until 2014.
MPs who supported the decision to send police trainers to Afghanistan have called for a debate with ministers next week.
A defence ministry spokesman told DutchNews.nl, the Afghan authorities have been asked for clarification of the situation.
