Olympics: More disappointment for Dutch sportsmen

Monday 30 July 2012

While the Dutch men's field hockey team scraped through their first match, judo fighter Dex Elmont could only manage fourth place and tennis player Robin Haase lost his first round match.

The men's field hockey team got off to a shaky start at the Hockey Centre, beating the unfancied Indian team 3-2.

Judo fighter Dex Elmont from Haarlem fought his way into the semi-finals of the under 73 kilogram class, but was beaten by the world champion, Riki Nakaya from Japan.

Earlier on Monday he fought the Mongolian Nyam-Ochir Sainjargal for the bronze medal but was beaten.

Tennis

The Netherlands only entry in the men's tennis tournament lost his opening match at Wimbledon. Robin Haase was beaten by the Frenchman Richard Gasquet 3-6, 3-6.
