Farmers desert Christian Democrats for liberal right-wing VVD

The Christian Democrat party CDA is losing its reputation as the most popular choice of farmers and market gardeners, news agency ANP reports.

A poll carried out by AgriDirect into voting intentions shows the liberal right party VVD catching up fast, with the CDA on 43% and the VVD on 40%.
A decade ago, the CDA could rely on 68% of farmers and market gardeners to vote for them. In the same period, the VVD has more than doubled its support from 10% in 2003.
The third most popular party for this section of the population is the fundamentalist Christian party SGP, which has grown from 3% to 10% since 2003.
