Community centre closures cause up to 9,000 job losses

The closure of hundreds of community and drop-in advice centres over the past two years has led to the loss of between 8,000 and 9,000 jobs, according to research by sector organisation MOgroep.

Many welfare organisations have now reached breaking point and if further cuts go ahead, community-run youth social work, home care and employment services will be under threat, the organisation says.
Some 70,000 people were employed in the community work sector at the end of last year, the equivalent of 47,000 full time jobs.
