A majority of MPs are set to vote in favour of the European rescue plan, despite opposition from some parties and voters in general.

During Tuesday evening’s debate, VVD, Christian Democrats, D66 and Labour MPs said they would support the foundation of the ESM fund to bail out weaker EU member states. The PVV, Socialists and ChristenUnie are among those who oppose the plan.
The Netherlands is to contribute some €4.5bn to the fund and a further €35bn in guarantees. The fund, due to launch in July, will have €500bn at its disposal.

Six out of 10 Dutch voters think parliament should not ratify the treaty to set up a permanent European rescue fund until after the September general election, according to a poll for television programme EenVandaag on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Geert Wilders is to press ahead with legal action to stop Dutch ratification because he believes the establishment of the fund hands over too much power to Brussels. That case may be heard as early as next week.
