A Dutch national shot by Israeli police at the weekend after threatening to go on a killing spree will not face charges, a court in Tel Aviv said on Tuesday.

The man, named by Israeli paper Haaretz as 32-year-old Bo Schimmelpfennig, had been living with an Israeli family in Bat Yam for around a year. According to police, they were attacked by Schimmelpfennig when the family called them to their home after he threatened to kill Jews.
The judge described the circumstances of the shooting as ‘unclear’ and refused to detain Schimmelpfennig for further questioning. He is seriously ill on a respirator in hospital.
The public prosecution department is investigating the incident which one public defender described as ‘a very serious case of police violence’.
