Accell in talks to take over British bike firm Raleigh

Dutch bike maker Accell is in exclusive talks to take over British bicycle company Raleigh, the Dutch firm said on Tuesday morning.


Stock exchange-listed Accell said in a statement it would make further announcements if and when appropriate.
Accell booked turnover of €628m in 2011 and net profit of €40m. The company, which includes Batavus and Sparta among its brands, claims to be European market leader, and books 34% of its turnover in the Netherlands.
Raleigh, founded 125 years ago, booked sales of $260m last year, Accell said.
