Train services back to normal

Trains will be back to normal on Wednesday, Dutch Rail (NS) announced on Tuesday. With the end of the cold snap, the winter timetable is no longer necessary.

Train provider NS and track operator ProRail say they introduced the winter timetable of fewer trains in order to be able to offer passengers a regular, if much reduced, service. However, the resultant overcrowding led to reports of passengers fainting in the crush.
There will be few consequences for the NS because it announced the adjustments to its timetable 36 hours before it was introduced, according to tv news bulletin RTL Nieuws. This ‘handy trick’ means the cancelled trains are not counted in the performance figures, which means the NS performance on paper looks much better than it actually was, RTL Nieuws says.
As a result, bonuses for NS managers and an increase in ticket fares will not be affected, says RTL Nieuws.
