Teaching unions call for strike action on March 6

Nearly 1,000 schools are expected to close their doors on March 6 when teachers go on strike. At least 1,900 other schools are likely to be affected by the action, teaching unions announced on Monday evening.

The strike is in protest at the government’s special education reforms which they fear will mean more special needs children in ordinary schools without proper funding, says Trouw.
Teachers are also unhappy that their pay has been frozen and that the government is pressing ahead with introducing performance-related pay.
The unions are expecting thousands of teachers at a strike meeting in the Amsterdam Arena on March 6, the day parliament is to debate the special education reforms.
