Van Gogh collection moves to the Hermitage during renovations
Thursday 26 January 2012
The Hermitage museum on the Amstel river has agreed to host some of Vincent van Gogh's most famous works while the Van Gogh museum is closed for seven months of renovations.
There were fears the plan to shift some works of art to the Hermitage would flounder because it had planned another exhibition. This would mean the city's biggest attraction would be lost to tourists for such a lengthy period. The Rijksmuseum and Stedelijk modern art museum are also closed for renovation work.
The Hermitage has now agreed to adapt its schedule to fit in the Van Gogh exhibition, news agency ANP reports.
