Cleaners strike continues

Cleaners are continuing their revolving strikes for better working conditions this week, the FNV general workers’ union Bondgenoten said on Monday.

Spokesman Ron Meyer told reporters it is extremely disappointing that there has been no reaction from employers since the campaign began last week.
On Thursday cleaners will hold a demonstration in The Hague during which they hope to meet politicians and employers’ leader Bernhard Wientjes.
Sick pay
The union is campaigning for better sick pay – at the moment cleaners are not paid for the first two days they are off work – and more time to complete their work.
Employers argue the union’s demands are unrealistic and will lead to an increase in labour costs of some 12%.
The pay deal which expired at the end of 2011 was finally sealed in April 2010 after nine weeks of strikes.
