Senior Labour economist says vote no to EU crisis measures

Senior Labour party economist Flip de Kam is advising MPs to reject the latest EU rescue package for the euro, he told a television current affairs show on Sunday.

The deal as agreed by European leaders last week will not do enough to end the crisis or prevent another one occurring, De Kam said.
A second Labour economist, Paul Tang, is also highly doubtful about the agreement but told the same television show a no vote would be ‘very dangerous’.
Labour’s finance spokesman Ronald Plasterk made it clear before the deal was reached he would not support measures based on weak compromises. The government needs Labour support to get approval for the rescue package because its alliance partner, the PVV, will vote no.
