‘Gaddafi’s son is negotiating to surrender to The Hague court’

The International Criminal Court in The Hague has had indirect contact with one of the sons of the dead Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and is ready to receive him, according to broadcaster CNN on Friday.

Saif al-Islam, who has been on the run since the weekend and is thought to be in Niger, reportedly wants to turn himself.
Al-Islam has been wanted by the court since June for crimes against humanity.

Chief prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo told CNN that the young Gaddafi will get full protection and would be allowed to organise his own defence. He would not say who the court is negotiating with. He also stressed no deals would be made with the 39-year-old Libyan.
Reuters reported earlier this week that both Saif al-Islam and former intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senussi were negotiating to surrender to the court.
If he does surrender, Saif al-Islam will be taken to the high security prison in Scheveningen, where five other criminal court defendants are also being held.
