Four out of 10 Dutch have a smart phone

Four out of 10 people in the Netherlands have a smart phone, according to a new survey involving 19,200 people by Telecompaper.

A year ago, smart phones were owned by 30% of those polled. The increase has been driven by youngsters, Telecompaper said. Some 60% of 15 to 29-year-olds have a smart phone.
T-Mobile is market leader in terms of subscriptions while Vodafone has the most prepaid smart phone customers.
Price rises
Meanwhile, a number of MPs have expressed concern at the apparent coordinated price rises announced by the main mobile phone firms, the Telegraaf reports on Friday.
On Tuesday, T-Mobile said it is introducing more expensive subscriptions for smart phone users, just weeks after KPN and Vodafone made similar announcements.
Telcos hope the new fee systems will compensate for the loss of income following the rise of free internet services such as Skype and text messaging system WhatsApp.
Just before the summer break, parliament passed net neutrality legislation which stopped telecoms firms charging extra fees for services like Skype.
Questions about the increases have been passed on to economic affairs minister Maxime Verhagen, the paper said.
