Dog micro chipping compulsory from next summer

All Dutch dog breeders will be required by law to register and microchip all puppies from next summer, junior farm minister Henk Bleker told parliament on Friday.

‘It should become completely normal to ask for registration documents when you buy a dog, just like buying a car,’ Bleker said.
The aim is to make sure all dogs have a microchip implanted under their skin within 10 years. The minister hopes this will reduce illegal breeding and allow owners to be more easily traced.
