Merck to invest $30m in Oss production line

US pharmaceuticals company Merck is to invest $30m in improving production at its plant in Oss, the Telegraaf said on Wednesday. The investment is in line with the company’s strategy to strengthen production at the site, the company said.

No new jobs will be created, Merck said. The money is going on new apparatus and lighting.
Earlier this year, Merck said it was closing the Oss R&D unit and one production line, leading to the loss of over 2,100 jobs and widespread protests.
That decision is still not definitive. Following the threat of legal action, unions and the works council have been given until the end of the year to come up with an alternative plan.
