Half the population positive about new cabinet, but don’t expect it to last

Exactly 50% of the population is positive, or very positive about the new cabinet, according to a poll by Maurice de Hond.

Some 13% are neutral and the rest opposed to the alliance between the right-wing VVD, the Christian Democrats and anti-Islam PVV.
Support for the cabinet outside parliament is roughly in line with the number of MPs it can count on -76 out of 150.
But only 28% of those polled think the new cabinet will last to the end of its five year term. Some 36% expect it to collapse before the end of next year.
Some 60% think the new cabinet ‘will do a good job’ at reducing immigration while 39% think it will improve the economy and 9% reduce poverty.
De Hond also asked his panel about political reform. In total, 56% want elected mayors (they are currently crown appointees) and 53% think the queen should have a ceremonial role only.
