Ex husbands and wives are increasingly refusing to pay child support, LBIO, the government organisation brought in to mediate in alimony disputes said on Monday.

Last year, the organisation received 9,900 reports of non-payment, up 23% on 2008. The economic crisis is probably behind the rise, the LBIO said.

Parents and ex-partners are liable for paying towards a child’s upkeep until they reach 21.
