Christian Democrat MPs still divided on deal, wait for congress vote

Christian Democrat MPs are still divided on whether or not to support the coalition agreement worked out between the CDA, right-wing VVD and anti-Islam PVV.

After 15 hours of discussion on Wednesday, the 21 members of parliament have decided to leave the decision up to Saturday’s congress. At least two MPs are known to oppose an alliance with Gert Wilders' party.

‘A large majority is positive about the results of the negotiations. The outcome of Saturday’s congress will play a major part in the decision of the MPs who have doubts,’ party leader Maxime Verhagen said afterwards. Some 2,000 CDA members have so far registered for Saturday's meeting.

MPs from the VVD and PVV voted unanimously in favour of the agreement.

As usual Verhagen is being less than completely honest.

So a large majority is positive about banning the burquas, keeping the foreigners out,reducing the minimum wage,choking those of us who fancy a coffee but don't smoke.How very Christian of them....
