Some 20,000 students still without a room

Some 20,000 students have still not found a place to live, the national student union said on Sunday.

The shortage is most serious in Amsterdam, Leiden, Delft and Nijmegen, LSVB chairman Sander Breur said in the Telegraaf.
Ten years ago the government launched an action plan to try to combat the shortfall in student accommodation. ‘The government estimated the student body would increase by 60,000 over 10 years but the increase was 120,000, Breur said.
According to the local authorities association, students wait an average of one year for a room.
