Minister takes private jet to attend budget meeting

Wednesday 25 August 2010

Caretaker environment minister Tineke Huizinga took a private jet costing nearly €12,000 to attend a scheduled cabinet meeting in the middle of her summer holiday, the Telegraaf reports on Wednesday.

Ministers' official holiday period ended on August 6, but Huizinga went on holiday later, causing her to miss crucial meetings about next year's government spending plans.

Even though a new government is in the offing, the outgoing cabinet must finalise the budget for next year, without introducing significant policy moves.

The cost of the round trip from Florence is being borne by the environment ministry.
