Avoid US tourist tax says website

Anyone planning to travel to the US in the next two years can avoid paying the tourist tax being introduced by the Americans on September 8, according to VisumService.nl.

The US government is introducing the tax of 14 dollars (€10) per person to fund a publicity campaign aimed at increasing tourist numbers.
According to Valdemar Goncalves of VisumService.nl, the tax can be avoided by filling in the visa waiver (ESTA) form before the introduction date of September 8 and leaving the date of the visit blank. Permission will then be granted for a visit within two years, meaning the tourist tax will not be charged.
‘You just have to check your passport does not expire during the two years, because a new passport requires a new visa waiver application with the added tourist tax,’ Goncalves told the Telegraaf.
