‘Avoid Thailand,’ foreign ministry tells travellers
The foreign affairs ministry is advising holidaymakers and other travellers to avoid Thailand because of the ongoing unrest.
‘All travel to Bangkok’ should be avoided as should non-essential visits to the four southern provinces on Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and Songkhla, the ministry says on its website.
Dutch nationals already in the country are being urged to register their presence with Dutch diplomatic missions so they can be warned in case of emergency.
Thirty-six people have been killed in the violence since Thursday and there was gunfire and explosions outside upscale hotels opposite the protesters’ fortified encampment in Bangkok on Sunday, the BBC reports.
The protestors, who have been campaigning since March, want the prime minister to resign and call elections.
