Security services authorised 1,000 phone taps
Thursday 29 April 2010
The two Dutch security services, the AIVD and MIVD (military security) authorised over 1,000 telephone and internet taps last year, the home affairs ministry was reported as saying on Wednesday.
The AIVD set 1078 taps and the MIVD 53, the figures show.
Security service taps account for only a fraction of the taps approved by the justice ministry. The ministry authorised taps on 26,425 telephones in 2008, the latest year when full figures are available.
The Netherlands sanctions more phone taps per head of population than any other country in the world.

Well now, gee golly gosh, I feel a lot safer knowing that the Dutch gov is doing it's best to protect us all against terrorist threats. Perhaps they could concentrate a tad more on one of my old work places, Schiplul, Schiphol!)
