World Online's Nina Brink loses book claim

Friday 19 March 2010

Businesswoman Nina Brink has lost her efforts to have an unauthorised biography about her removed from book shops.

Amsterdam court ruled that writer Eric Smit had consulted enough sources to support his criticism of Brink and her ex husband Albert and refused to order the book's withdrawal.

Another case brought by Brink will look at the actual claims in the book at a later date.

But one section about Brink's daughter does break the law by unacceptably infringing on her privacy, the court said. That section will be removed from the second edition of the book.

The court also said Brink could not protest about her picture being on the cover of the book because she is a public figures.

Flotation

Brink took her internet company World Online to the stock exchange in 2000.

WOL shares started trading at €50 but had halved in price two weeks later and were under €10 at the end of the year.

It later emerged that Brink had sold most of her shares before the IPO for just $ 6.04 a share.

Last year, the high court ruled WOL, ABN Amro and Goldman Sachs had misled investors at the internet service provider's launch.
