Labour remains biggest party in Rotterdam

Friday 12 March 2010

The Labour party is still the biggest party in Rotterdam and the gap between it and local populist party Leefbaar Rotterdam has increased to 754 votes, election officials said on Friday following a vote recount.

Both parties will have 14 seats on the 45-seat local council, officials said. However, the result of the recount means Labour will still have the upper hand in forming a coalition administration.

The public prosecution department is currently investigating a number of claims of irregularities at polling stations during last week's vote. The results of that inquiry are expected on Monday.
