Barendrecht to fight on over CO2 storage
Wednesday 17 March 2010
Barendrecht town council is to lobby MPs to win support for legal action against plans to experiment with the storage of surplus carbondioxide under a housing estate of 7,600 homes.
The storage plan falls under fast-track planning laws passed by the senate on Tuesday night. This means the town council no longer has the right to go to court about the proposal.
But both MPs and ministers said in the past they supported Barendrecht's right to fight the plans in court, news agency ANP reports.
Economic affairs minister Maria van der Hoeven is expected to give parliament more details about the planned experiment at the end of the month.

I was under the impression that no controversial decisions were allowed to be passed until after the next election. This long running battle against the CO2 storage location that is supported by MPs, Ministers and the general public sounds rather controversial to me.
