Dutch embassy in Yemen partially closed

The consular and visa department of the Dutch embassy in Yemen has been closed to the public, the foreign ministry said on Monday.

The closure comes just a day after foreign affairs minister Maxime Verhagen said he was monitoring the situation closely but that there was no immediate need for closure.
‘The public areas will be closed for the rest of the week and then we will see if the measure should be continued,’ a ministry spokesman told the NRC. There is no acute threat, but the step has been taken due to the ‘general security situation’, he told the paper.
Britain and the US have closed their embassies and France, Italy and Japan have partially closed theirs, the paper said. The embassies have been closed following ‘threats from a regional al-Qaeda offshoot,’ the BBC said.
