Twente lose, Ajax win in Europa league

FC Twente will have to win its final group match against Steaua Romania on December 17 if the team is to progress to the knock-out round of the Europa League following Wednesday night's 0-1 defeat by Fenerbahce of Turkey.

Earlier in the day, riot police were brought in to keep rival supporter separate following clashes in the centre of Enschede.

But Amsterdam club Ajax made certain of a place in the Europa League round of 32 draw with a 2-1 Group A victory at FC Timişoara. But the scoreline 'conceals a wealth of drama'.

Two Timişoara players – including the goalkeeper - were sent off while Luis Suárez missed two penalties.
