'Lessons on homosexuality needed for all'Thursday 10 December 2009 Orthodox Christian and Muslim schools should be required to teach their pupils about sex and homosexuality, D66 MP Bors van der Ham says in an interview with website nu.nl. 'At the moment, this issue is dealt with in the core learning targets in a very perfunctory way,' Van der Ham said. 'This allows schools to get out of their obligations.' Information about homosexuality is vital to combat intolerance towards gays and lesbians, he said. 'A too-large group of youngsters get a homophobic message from home.' Van der Ham will raise his proposal during a debate on the issue in parliament on Thursday, nu.nl says. © DutchNews.nl
What exactly does Mr. van der Ham propose schools teach when there are so many different opinions on homosexuality? By Sean | December 10, 2009 11:06 AM Good way forward on the subject!!!! So will Wielders be tolerant to none western migrants and Muslims??? By Al | December 10, 2009 12:05 PM No one will ever get religious fundamentalists to change their views. They've held the same views for 100's of years, some debate in the Dutch parliament in late 2009 won't change anything. The only way to make people more tolerant is to force people to attend secular schools. By Geuzen76 | December 10, 2009 12:27 PM "youngsters get a homophobic message from home" By AC | December 10, 2009 12:38 PM Most of the hate against homosexuals comes from homophobes / one fearful of the gay lifestyle. Dr Kinsey (USA1940's) proved that 10% of the population is 100% gay and 10% 100% non gay.... the 80% in the middle are bisexual in some way. It is these people who can not express their true feelings that are behind gay hate. Personally I do not care for I am confident in my sexuality and have many gay and straight friends. Sexual education should start in the early school years and maybe the future adults will NOT be so afraid of what their sexual orientation is. BUT religious leaders will not allow this, hate groups will not allow this and many others who are in that 80% gray zone will not want this. When most humans were still farmers, about a century ago, children saw the farm animals "making babies" and learned of sex at a young age. It is as natural as breathing, eating or sleeping. Why do groups (religious/hate) propagate lies to confuse humans into becoming hate filled monsters? By Paul Martin | December 10, 2009 12:45 PM Time to pack and move family home. Saved enough. Wanna raise my kids my own way. The right way. By ExPat Knowledge Migrant | December 10, 2009 1:27 PM Brilliant news! I hope the MP, Mr. Bors van der Ham, will really get the lessons going in schools. Cultural rights does not mean one can have the freedom to be unjustly righteous in religious sense(only God can judge what is the most/absolute right way), or be prejudice and violent towards others, in their personal lives, when crimes are not committed. In the case of homosexuality, it's between them and their God, personally, if they are believers of course, of whatever religion. It's different to what Mr. Wilders is trying to achieve (with regard to on a comment here criticizing Mr. Wilders)where Mr. Wilders is fighting bravely and briliantly against highly political Islam, that justifies primitive and criminal violence and sexism, whether towards women/ girls, gays and non-Muslims. That has no more place in the progressive modern world! By Katharina Sri (former: Noor Aza) | December 10, 2009 2:56 PM What can be so difficult! Doesn't matter what do you believe, or what you like, just respect the other's! There are some groups that want to be respected, but don't respect the others! By VN | December 10, 2009 7:10 PM Homosexuality is a fact, like the moon and the sun, it is what it is you cannot argue with that. But through the so called education, people learn to hate and separate. It is necessary to help children (and adults) to understand what homosexuality is. Sadly most poeple (not mistake spelling) rather stick with their opinions and prejudices. By Zen | December 10, 2009 7:43 PM Homosexuality is abnormal, if not a sin. I don want my kids learn abnormal stuff. It is not about respect. It is about teaching children what they need. Homowhatever is not one. By ExPat Knowledge Migrant | December 11, 2009 9:53 AM If people want to leave the country because the Dutch government want to teach tolerance, understanding and knowledge then all i can say is this: Bye. By Geuzen76 | December 11, 2009 10:11 AM I am more than happy to see all these homophobic poeple leave this country too. Bye By Zen | December 11, 2009 4:21 PM Dutch knowledge economy will suffer big time if knowledge migrants leave. So "tolerate" their concern if you cannot produce enough scientists and convince your goverment not to teach abnormal life style to expat's normal children. By ExPat Knowledge Migrant | December 12, 2009 10:36 AM How can someone who claims to be a scientist and a "knowledge migrant" be so backward in their thinking? Gay people don't get taught to be gay, and neither is homosexuality a 'lifestyle'(just like being bald, or being tall or being dyslexic or left handed isn't a life style). And how dare you claim that your children are/will be normal because you know they are not gay. Your arrogance astonishes me, how you can threaten to leave the country an take your 'knowledge' with you unless your demands are not met. You know what?: This may come as a shock to you and your self-righteousness, but scientists/doctors aren't brought here because Dutch people aren't clever enough, they are brought here because they are cheaper.
