MPs to question central bank chief on Icesave
Wednesday 12 August 2009
The president of the central bank, Nout Wellink, is to appear before parliament’s finance committee on September 11 to give a public account of the bank’s actions in relation to the collapse of the internet bank Icesave, reports the Financieele Dagblad on Wednesday afternoon.
Finance minister Wouter Bos approved the hearing in a letter to MPs on Wednesday, the paper said.
Earlier this year Bos commissioned a report into the role of the central bank in the Icesave affair on the request of the parliamentary finance committee.
On Tuesday a letter from Wellink rejecting criticism against the bank made by the report was made public in the press. In his letter to Bos, Wellink warned that such criticism and other negative comments by politicians undermine the authority of the central bank.
The bankruptcy of Landsbanki and its Icesave internet subsidy led to 128,000 Dutch savers losing some €2bn in savings. Much of the compensation bill was picked up by the taxpayer.

There is something about these Central Bank directors. They act as if no one can even ask them about ANY involvement, as soon as they are addressed to that , they (Like Ben Bernanke from the FED)they start to threaten!!!The central banks are responsible for the economic meltdown!! and the high inflation's..how else could "normal" banks fund these toxic CDS's with some more the 600% of their total assets??? isnt the central bank there to check and correct these banks? or did they WANT to have a collapse??
