Parents unhappy with school security

Friday 14 August 2009

Some 25% of parents feel that the security at schools is not sufficient to protect staff and children against potentially dangerous visitors, according to a survey published on Friday.

But the National School Survey concluded that children themselves feel safe in their classrooms.

Traffic safety around schools is also a cause for concern, the survey said.

Was about time that parents say something! I live near a school and there are plenty of middle aged alcoholics hanging around and bottles and cans everywhere.

I'm amazed that the school nor the police nor the council does anything??

I agree with the parents, whether it is in the Netherlands or anywhere else in the world. WAY TOO MUCH bad is happening in the schools around the world. I live in the USA and it's just as bad over here...

On the other hand 75% of parents think that school security is not insufficient to protect staff and children against potentially dangerous visitors.

I agree that schools are not safe here. I can walk in and kidnap a child easily if I desired, especially infants. Mothers just leave them unattended in strollers in the hallways while bringing older kids to classes and are never in a hurry to get back to their babies. One of these days someone will snatch one and a lesson will be learned. I can walk into the school ANY time I desire without buzzing to an intercom or other security measure. ALL children are expected to go to the toilets alone 1 at a time even the 4 yr olds. If I was a pedophile I could snatch one in the WC easily and run off with the child. I find this unacceptable and I worry for my son in this school daily.

@ Laura totally agree with you the dutch people and so must be there school minister are naive the country is packed with pedios so are the border countries Germany and Belgium!!
This is the 21st century world has changes to the worst we are the parents it's our job to protect our children!!
I'm sure schools are on bugets each year but that's the wrong way to save money on security!!
Better save than sorry?? Schools will be sued if they are not careful!!
